PlayStation announces new PS Plus Tiers release dates

After announcing the inclusion of PlayStation Now in PlayStation Plus with the latter split into several different tiers, Sony this week announced the release dates for those new subscriptions. We say “dates” because even though the three PlayStation Plus tiers will launch globally, they won’t come everywhere at the exact same time, instead showing up over the course of a month starting in May.

Finished on update PlayStation Blog Post Where the new subscriptions themselves were first announced, Sony now says that these levels will be on the market for the first time on May 23. This release will be limited to Asia only, but not Japan. Japan will get the new PlayStation Plus categories on June 1, the Americas will get it on June 13, and Europe will get it on June 22. Note that all of these release plans are listed as target dates, so there’s always a chance these dates will move as we get closer to the releases of the new levels.

These new levels start with PlayStation Plus Essential which will work the same as the regular PlayStation Plus now, so if you’ve got that and don’t have plans to upgrade, nothing will change for you. For those who want 2-in-1 PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now combos, you’ll soon have to choose between PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium. The first costs $99.99 per year and includes up to 400 PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games via PlayStation Now integration while the other costs $119.99 per year and comes with PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. PlayStation 3 games are only available via Cloud broadcasting, a point that ended as expected.

“The new, additional and premium levels are a major evolution of PlayStation Plus,” said Jim Ryan of PlayStation of these new levels. “With these levels, our primary focus is on ensuring that the hundreds of games we offer include the very best in quality content that sets us apart. At launch, we plan to include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, And back. We are working closely with our creative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available in a library that will be updated regularly.”

The PlayStation Plus Collection will still be around when these new levels are released as well, so those who can take advantage of this collection of games anytime soon won’t miss them.
